Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee Approves
Three Measures
Harrisburg – The Senate Environmental Resources
and Energy Committee, chaired by Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21), approved three
measures on Tuesday.
Senate Bill 1573 makes technical changes to Act 64 of 2008, which passed in
July to establish the Water and Sewers Systems Assistance Bond Fund. The program
would be funded by a $400 million bond that will go before voters for approval
this November.
House Bill 44 would prohibit the sale or installation of mercury thermostats
in Pennsylvania, and require certain retailers to establish collection and
recycling programs.
Senate Resolution 375 urges Congress to amend the Natural Gas Policy Act of
1978 so as to preserve the fundamental rights of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania and its local governments and its citizens to determine the future
of land-use policies.
The resolution notes that various federal public
policy decisions and rulings have resulted in a proliferation of interstate
natural gas pipelines over which state and local governments have no authority;
