White: Volunteer Fire Department, EMS Grants Available
State help in paying for equipment, facilities, training
and more.
Franklin – Local volunteer fire departments and emergency medical
services organizations can apply now for state grants to help pay for equipment,
facilities, training and more, according to state Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21).
Grants under the Volunteer Fire
Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program range from $2,500 to
$15,000 for volunteer fire companies and rescue companies, and $10,000 for
volunteer ambulance companies, White said.
Grants may be used for the
purchase or repair of firefighting or rescue equipment, construction or
renovation costs for facilities, training, or debt reduction. Volunteer fire
companies that also provide volunteer ambulance service are eligible to apply
for both a volunteer fire company grant and a volunteer ambulance service grant.
"In addition to putting their
safety at risk to protect lives and property, these volunteers must devote an
increasing amount of time to fundraising to pay the bills. While no state
program can replace strong, community support, these grants can help ease some
of the financial burden faced by volunteer fire and EMS companies," said White.
The application for the grants
is available online at
www.osfc.state.pa.us. The deadline to apply is Oct. 17.
Senator White supported passage
of legislation last year that extended the $25 million grant program through
2012.
