Committee Holds Hearing on Alternative Fuel Mandates

Harrisburg -- The Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, chaired by Sen. Mary Jo White (R-21), on Wednesday held the first of two public hearings to discuss a proposed alternative fuel mandate for gasoline and diesel fuel sales within the Commonwealth.

The Rendell Administration has proposed that each gallon of gasoline contain 10 percent ethanol, and each gallon of diesel fuel contain 20 percent biodiesel fuel, when the plan is fully phased in.

The committee heard testimony from the Governor's Office, farm groups, environmentalists and biofuel producers.  A second hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 25th at 9:30 AM in Hearing Room 8 E-B.

Video of Wednesday's hearing, as well as prepared testimony and additional information, is available on the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee home page.
